The Historic Post Office
For the small town of Ottawa, Kansas, the Historic Post Office was a neglected building that sat vacant for many decades reminding citizens of the past. The owners envisioned the first floor into a new event space. To retain the historic nature of the space, many elements were cleaned, repaired, restored, and replicated, revealing unique designs that date back to the original design and function of the building. By designing a neutral backdrop, the finishes highlight the historic elements while providing an elegant atmosphere for details typical of a wedding. The basement was a dark and underutilized space. By converting the space into a speakeasy, both event guests and town residents can enjoy cocktails and conversations. With a nod to the era of Prohibition, the classic green color was matched directly from the existing paint in the space and used throughout the basement.
